Amazon.com Product Description
Easy to use without sacrificing style, the Nokia 6300 offers great voice communication, plus a number of other useful features. The stylish and compact phone comes loaded with an integrated 2.0-megapixel digital camera and 3GPP video player/recorder, MicroSD card support, Bluetooth, and support for Java applications and games. The Nokia 6300 also features Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 for interactive user experiences with video, audio, and graphics. It's the perfect way to get the most from your GSM service.

Design
First and foremost, the 6300 is designed for stylish simplicity. Large, easy-to-press buttons are arranged on a sleek rectangular-shaped case. A large 240 x 320, 16.7 million color display resides above a five-way center button that controls most of the phone's menus and functions. A 2.5mm headphone jack is provided if you want to use a wired headset for calls or for music playback on the built-in music player. Volume control keys are available on the right side of the phone, while USB connectivity is featured on the phone's bottom edge. The backside of the phone houses the device's 2.0-megapixel camera lens. The phone features a microSD / TransFlash slot that accommodates cards up to 2 GB, and lastly, because the 6300 uses an internal antenna, there's nothing to snag or break off.

Calling Features
The 6300's built-in address book can store up to 1000 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and addresses. In addition to a vibrate alert, the phone is compatible with MP3 and MIDI ringtones, as well. It even supports video ringtones. Different ringtones can be set for groups of callers so you know who's calling without having to look at the device. A call log keeps track of your recent dialed calls, as well as your most recent missed or received calls. Plus, there's a speakerphone so you can talk all you want without having the phone to your ear. Push-to-talk and a voice command feature are also included (push-to-talk usability is carrier dependent).

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The 6300 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging and Internet connectivity. Use the phone's built-in picture messaging capability to send text, graphics, and pictures to your friends. The phone features support for instant messaging applications, and there's a built-in WAP 2.0 Web browser (supports HTML, xHTML, TCP/IP) for downloads and mobile Web browsing. The phone also supports Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging (AMS)--a fast and simple way to send voice or sound clips via MMS. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 6300 including a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. The 6300 also comes with SyncML already built-in--an easy way to sync your phone and PC's contact list and calendar via USB or Bluetooth.

If needed, the 6300 can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. Use the supported EDGE high-speed data transfer protocol for high-speed Internet connectivity.

The 6300 also sports an airplane mode feature, which allows the user to safely use the non-wireless functions of a phone (such as music, games, or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight.

Imaging and Entertainment
Customize the graphics on the 6300's screen to give your phone a look that suits your tastes. Plus, the 6300 is Java enabled, meaning it supports games written on the Java platform. Document your latest adventure with the phone's advanced 2.0-megapixel camera that features an 8x digital zoom, or with the camera's supported video recorder. The built-in advanced music player supports MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, H.263, and H.264 music files. Lastly, high-quality video can be streamed straight from the device.

Vital Statistics
The Nokia 6300 weighs 3.17 ounces and measures 4.09 x 1.73 x 0.71 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3 hours of digital talk time, and up to 12.5 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

4 out of 5 stars Nokia 6300 , a phone users phone   May 16, 2007

for the last 4 years ive had a 6310i and it still works great. ive decided its time to upgrade though as the buttons are getting a bit unreliable. I require a phone thats :
1. easy to use.
2. solid, wont break if its dropped or squeezed too tightly, like those disposable phones with xpresson covers.
3. it must be kinda pretty.
4. it must have lastability.i dont want to have to upgrade every 6 months.

The 6300 covers all those bases.
Its super slim, yet solid, no creaking or cracking of it in your hand or pocket. it feels sturdy, like its made from just one piece of metal.
The stainless steel cover is beautiful and adds to the solid feel. there are no gaps or loose areas in the cover. its all tight and solid.

The screen is beautiful, big, bright, good depth. i have made loads of wallpapers for myself and they look magnificient.

The loudspeaker is great. i can hear conversations very clearly wtih it, and my mp3 ringtones are crisp and loud. could do with being a bit louder, but it isnt bad at all.

the keypad is nice. its firm, but not overly so. the only problem with the key pad is the function of the directional button when texting. you can navigate around your text message by using the directional button, but if you press it the message sends. too many times it has happened that i wanted to move back or forward in my text message, but sent it by accident.
The configurable soft keys are fantastic. i have all the main functions at hand at the touch of a button so i rarely have to go into the menu.

When i do have to search for something the OS is quick, far quicker than some of the S40 phones i have used. it doesnt need to be any faster in my opinion.

The camera is not great, but i wanted a phone, not a camera. the camera takes fine images for messages, but nothing you would ever want to print. as stated before though, i wanted a phone, not a camera so i dont find this a big problem.

As for batterylife, on first charge, with heavy usage it lasted almost 3 days. its on its second charge for 3 days now and the battery indicator is half full. i know these indicators can be unreliable, but its already over what i expected, considering the small battery size.

Migrating over all my details was a real worry but with the nokia software i managed this in about 2 minutes! just backed up the info off the 6310i, and restored it onto the 6300!! what could be simpler!

i would thoroughly recommend this phone to someone who wants a phone( hope that makes sense to you!). its not a camera or a music player, even though you can use it, to some degree or another for those features. its easy to use, solid, hopefully reliable phone. I say hopefully reliable, as i have had headaches over dodgy phones before, but i feel this one wont disappoint.

to rehash:
Pros:
Solid, well Built.
Size, very thin. The screen is beautiful. Big , contrasty and bright.
The loudspeaker is quite good.
The number of softkeys ( 8) make this phone a dream to use.
Nice key pad.
pc software supplied is excellent.

Cons:
Battery life could be longer i guess.
Position of the send key when texting.
camera not great ( but its a phone remember, not a camera!).

This phone fulfills all my requirements, and the only reason it doesnt get 5 stars, is that nothing is perfect, so it has to settle for 4 stars!

4 out of 5 stars solid, good looking phone that performs well   February 14, 2008

This was given to me as a work phone. Overall easy to use middle of the range phone in terms of style, features and cost. The face panel is divided into two sections. The upper two thirds is dominated by the screen, which at 240 x 320 is not bad. Near the top of this panel is the location of the speaker, which could stand to be a little louder for those difficult to hear scenarios like when you are in an airport or riding a train. Below the main screen are the features buttons which seen fairly easy to use and are well located for your fingers. The lower one third of the face panel is the number pad. Visually it achieves the obvious design goal of allowing the screen to be dominant and take center stage without resorting to a slide phone. However, as with many mobiles, marketing and "looks" have been selected over a holistic design approach which addresses the ergonomics of the human hand. When using the bottom row on number pad your thumb is forced to compress in way which is not physically healthy when done in a repetetive way. On the back panel is access to the sim card and battery, as well as the 2 megapixel camera. The power button is located on the top of the camera and on the bottom.

By using the selection button you can easily switch between the camera and video modes. Videos can be recorded in two resolutions, either 176 x 144 or 144 x 96. By default video length is a maximum of 15 seconds, but this can be changed to the maximum available storage space. The same adjustments available for the camera can be used for video. Again I would recommend the night mode as this produces some very interesting lighting effects, particularly when filming moving objects such as vehicles.

Prior to owning this phone I have not done a lot of texting, however once understanding how the predictive text works it is quite easy to use. The menus would work more efficiently if a user could reprogram the order of the options. For example, while preparing a text message of some length it is necessary to edit words and insert symbols on numerous occasions. When selecting the options menu these features are listed 7th and 8th respectively while the "send" feature is listed first. This is a poor hierarchal organization of the features when considering that you are unlikely to use the "send" feature more than once while preparing any given message. If while preparing a text message and having predictive text turned on you type a combination of letters that are not recognized as a word it prompts you to spell the word. Once spelling the word out letter by letter though it does not allow you to add the word to its database.

It is possible to send a several types of messages. 1. Text 2. Multimedia - this will embed whatever multimedia you are sending into one presentation file 3. Multimedia Plus - this places the files after the text message as an attachment and when the reciever gets the message they can open each attached file individually 4. Flash 5. The screen itself is quite easy to read and you can adjust the size of the foot to suit your eyesight. I prefer to use a black designer background so that the colors look more vibrant. One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to send plain text messages to an email address. Instead, I type my message and then send it to an email address using the multimedia plus type.

Snake III, Soccer 3D and Soduku2 are the only games you will find, but they come loaded on the sim card and not on the phone itself. What is the built-in memory capacity of the phone? When reviewing the images stored on the phone or sim card it is possible to change the viewing orientation by simply rotating the phone 90 degrees in your hand. The phone can access the web at a click of a button, but it does request your approval before proceeding as additional charges will likely be applied to your account. Though the phone does come with 3G technology it is still dependent upon availability through your provider. I have tried to access my work emails while out of the office at meetings, but it is too slow and cumbersome to be worth the effort on a regular basis. There are 7 profiles availale with 5 of them being preset for your convenience. Each is completely customizable; ringing type, tune and volume; incoming video or lighting affects and several more.

This is a phone packed with opportunities for online entertainment, but not as robust for supporting remote office working. It seems that at every menu there is some type of application or feature listed that if you actually want to use involves some fee or additional service. The phone has good "curb appeal" for the middle price bracket that it falls in. As it is not a flip-top, it is important to master the habit of locking the keypad so that you don't drive yourself nuts when you keep bumping keys while storing it in your pocket. Text messages have a 1000 character limit. Battery life? Charge time? Bluetooth, pocket data and data transfer can be used to comebu with other devices. Additionally, you connect the phone to your computer if you purchase separately the correct USB cable. When preparing a text message it will automatically save it for you when exiting out, either intentionally or not, by hitting the red button.

Overall, a very solid, good looking phone that performs well.

4 out of 5 stars Nokia 6300   May 18, 2007
I got this phone recently and I need to admit 2 things.
1) Amazon gives one of the best customer service
The first piece I got was damaged and I wanted to replace it. Amazon not only provided me a free UPS shipping label, but also sent the new piece in 2 days flat.
2) The phone is amazing
It's very sleek, Has got a good LCD (a big one at that), Camera/Video/MP3 player/Radio etc is too cool, keypad is fairly easy to navigate
The only thing I am concerned is the signal connectivity. As compared to my old phone, this does not seem to detect signals in low-signal areas. Apart from this am fairly satisfied with the phone's performance.

3 out of 5 stars NOKIA best phones as always   July 12, 2007
8 out of 8 found this review helpful

i've been a Nokia customer for years already, this 6300 is my 8th Nokia phone.
the main reason i like their phones, is there are easy to use, beatifull design, small and very reliable.
i never had a problem with any of them.
i bought the 6300 about 2 weeks ago and i must say it's a gorgeous phone,it feels like 1 million dollar, meaning most phones look cheap(ish) and feel cheap.not this one.
the resolution is so clear.
and as always very easy to use .
BUT there is one problem, very big problem:the battery life is short.
I have to charge it every night ,even though i'm hardly using it during the day.
What if i go one day on a business trip and receive alot of calls?the battery will die whitin a few hours.
Seriously,NOKIA must do something about it.
This phone has alot of features like MP3,video camera wich i never use because the battery will probably die after 3 min.
It realy hurts me to give this beauty 3 stars, but the battery life is very important:(
I just got a micro SD card that i put in my cell and the pictures are sooooo clear, gorgeous realy...
